Getting both students involved in pairwork can be a challenge. These six topic lessons give each partner their own questions, so they both have something to ask and something to say. They work well with B1–B2 learners.
Each lesson moves from discussion questions to a shared outcome, such as planning a clothing-swap event or a day trip. Students explain their choices, negotiate a compromise and reflect on the language they used.

Topics for pairwork
There is a separate pairwork lesson for each of these six topics:
- Travel
- Rules and regulations
- Learning a foreign language
- Money
- Fashion
- Health and fitness
The Materials
Give each partner their own sheet. They explore the different questions, then make the three-part shared plan. Ask them to present a choice and a compromise, and finish with the reflection stage.
Help your students keep the conversation going by writing “What do you think?”, “How about you?” and “Do you agree?” on the board. Encourage them to respond to each other and explain their reasons.
