I love talking about food in my classes. I find that students do too. After all, who doesn’t like thinking about a favourite home-cooked meal? Here we have a B1 lesson with a focus on Mediterranean food, combining reading, vocabulary, speaking and a short writing task.
Contents
The Mediterranean Diet

The reading presents Mediterranean food as a flexible eating pattern. Use it to explore familiar ingredients and practise understanding the main idea and details.
The Materials
This lesson focuses on vocabulary, reading and speaking skills. Students recall food vocabulary before reading for the main idea. They then match six vocabulary items and answer six comprehension questions, supporting their answers with evidence from the text.
Students finish by planning a fictional lunch together. A short email task and model extend the lesson into writing. The activity develops general B1 language skills.
